Sucker for all things new

From Mike:  Ask my friends and they will verify this. In the years up to starting this contest, I was the go-to guy for all things new. I must admit that those 3 little letters do their trick to my food pallet. I am the embodiment of marketing firms from Pepsi to McDonalds. When the new Angus Third Pounder came out, I had it. Kentucky Grilled Chicken, I ate it. My beloved Baconator, devoured it. A Beefy, Crunchy Burrito, hey it said new, why not? The loaded Double Whopper(had a baked potato on it), I longed for it.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

From Matt: In the last several weeks, I have made a lot of changes to my diet, to my sleeping habits, and to the way that I think about food. It is as much mental as it is phyical.

The amount of support that I have received from my wife, family and friends as been overwhelming. For more than 20 years, I have been joining my buddies that I have known for over 30 years or more on an annual golf trip. This year, it was last week to sunny Arizona. I passed on the trip this year in order to take advantage of this incredible opportunity with The Fittest Loser. If I was going to miss this trip, I wanted to make sure I had a great week of working out and eating right.

Finding the strength to BELIEVE!

From Karen:  Everyday I am filling my body with protein, a huge variety of them, I just sit back and wonder how can I live this this the rest of the life? I KNOW its the way to live, the way to be healthy, but at the same time how can this be “real life” for anyone? I wish I was seeing quicker results because I know I am working harder at this than anything I have ever done in my life and want to see greater pound loss!

Eating Nutrients and Other Stuff

From Tom:  I’ve been eating regularly since I was a little kid—maybe even since I was an infant, although I don’t remember. It turns out, though, that I’ve had no idea what I have been doing.

Before starting the Fittest Loser Contest, I thought that the focus would be on building muscle and losing fat by increasing exercise and decreasing the quantity and frequency of stuffing my face. Not quite. I’m actually eating more, and more often. We also are learning lots about right and wrong eating.

Begin Week 4

From Brian:  OK, so we are officially one-third finished with the Fittest Loser Contest. Routines are easier now but the learning never ends. From a wholesome perspective, I understand organic foods but I’ve never been on the “purified water” bandwagon….I’ve read articles about how most tap water is just as healthy, if not more, than bottled waters so going beyond that was never a thought.

Clothes are getting baggy

From Mike:  I am thinking about making a shopping trip tonight for some new clothes. My current clothes are getting baggy. I have some smaller jeans in my “never thought I would fit in again”  pile that I have been reluctant to try on for size.  I know I now have to tighten my belt more, and even fold over the front of my jeans a bit to get them to stay up.

I hope I do not have to visit the non-style section most stores call “big and tall.”

Radio Postponed

From Matt: I will not be chatting with John Williams today, it has been postponed until next Friday at 2:35 pm.

I’M STILL ALIVE

From Matt:  I just wanted to let my favorate pizza places know that I am still alive. Better to blog it for fear that I may still have that temptation to order. Let me say that egg whites are like eating a paper plate. I have tried them with spinach and turkey and they are still rough. I also wanted to thank all of the organic chickens that have sacrificed their lives for my health. We are two and a half weeks in and am having issues with the scale. I am drinking more water than I ever have in my life and it still is not enough according to my trainer. One hundred seventy seven ounces is alot of water. That is ten and a half 16.9 oz bottles a day. I should be able to build a pretty good size matress with the bottles when this all done. No Pain- No Gain.

I survived eating out (lunch) !

From Karen:  I was invited long ago to a luncheon with old friends/co-workers. The date was today. I have been nervous about venturing out and getting a lunch. I feel I did good, and made a good choice. I had a chicken berry salad, minus the walnuts and had the dressing on the side that I did not use. The sliced chicken was good, the mixture of fresh spring salad, strawberries and blueberries with some gorgonzola cheese were GREAT.. plus I only ate 1/2 the portion. I feel better now, not that I am planning to eat out again soon, but proved to myself there are good choices out there …  you just have to look for them. Logged in my bodyminder journal ready for the rest of the day!

Light Bulb Moment at Push Fitness!

From Karen: Well, yesterday at Push Fitness, my trainer Tony had me working out hard, the sweat was dripping off my body (every area of my body). Then I stopped for a moment and thought … He was causing me pain without any MOVEMENT. Yes, like a statue, I was just holding up a leg for a simple minute and the pain (good pain) was CRAZY. So here is to everyone out there saying I dont have access to a gym … You dont really need it … Trainers can show you positions that will kill your muscles that are simple to just do at home! With that thought let me get off my chair and do a few! Everyone has a few minutes they can make the time!
