Back on my feet … for real

It's been a long road to recovery, but I am back on the trail!

From Cathi:  I actually got on the treadmill last night! SQUEEE!!

It’s the simple things excite me these days.

I’ve been off the treadmill for almost a month since I fell down four stairs, tore the collateral medial ligament in my left knee, landed in a brace, and wound up with an entirely new workout plan.

By the time the diagnosis part was over, I think I recruited most of Central DuPage Hospital to join Team Catherine. Props to everyone who helped get me back on two feet!

I’m still wearing the brace, but because the leg is feeling better every day George added a small (emphasis on small) amount of legwork to my routine yesterday and got me up on the treadmill for five minutes.

I was moving at a pace equal to that of someone walking to their execution – but I was moving!

And today? Well, today I can still walk. Don’t underestimate the importance of that fact. We’d tried the same thing early last week and I could barely move the day afterward – a sure sign we were moving more quickly than my knee preferred.

My goal by the end of this week is to be out of the brace 90 percent of the time, excluding actual workouts. Wish me luck! It’s nice to know you’re converting fat to muscle to by working out and eating right, but a little movement on the scale would do wonders for the enthusiasm level.
